Mater Power Technologies has formed a strategic alliance with Hammond Power Solutions (HPS), a Canadian company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange that specialises in the design and manufacturing of cast resin dry electric transformers and reactors for low voltage and medium voltage applications.
As a result of the alliance, Master Power Technologies, to compliment their current range of products and services will be supplying and supporting a range of HPS medium voltage dry transformers to the South African and greater African market. The technology selection includes vacuum impregnated products from 10 kVA to 3000 kVA and cast resin products from 50 kVA to 10 MVA and up to 36 kV insulation class.
A transformer is an electrical device without moving parts which, by electromagnetic induction, transforms power between circuits at the same frequency, usually with changed values in the voltage and current. There are generally two types of transformers available to clients, dry type transformers and liquid filled transformers.
Dry-type transformers are respected in industrial applications due to the benefits they provide, which have been proven over many years. One of the main benefits says Andre Naude, at Master Power Technologies, is their cost effectiveness. “These transformers are easy to install and can be located almost anywhere, which means they do not require an expensive investment in service or enclosures. The reliability and long lifespan of these systems also equates to lower working costs without losing their constant output potential.”
The medium voltage dry transformers Master Power Technologies now offers from HPS can be used as stand-alone products in smaller installations, or integrated into larger solutions.
Naude adds that companies managing their power systems, whether from utility grids or their own generators, will need to think carefully about the transformers they need, as these are a key component to electricity distribution. Some of the key areas to consider when looking at medium voltage dry transformers include the system’s capacity (kVA) and voltage rating, the insulation system to manage the heat emitted, the core and coil conductors and the winding insulation (for example, open-wound, vacuum pressure impregnation, vacuum pressure encapsulated, encapsulated and cast coil).
“Master Power Technologies has aligned itself with Hammond Power Solutions because of the long history of quality products and superior service the Canadian company provides,” Naude says. “We believe that incorporating Hammond products into the Master Power product arsenal will enable us to provide an even better and more comprehensive service to the South African and African markets we currently serve.”
